How to preserve nail polishes

Despite recent trend of displaying all of your nail polishes (as if it was something to be proud of that we have no self control) it is absolutely the worst you can do.
If you are like me and own more than 30 nail polishes you are probably not able to use up all of them in 6 months or so. And my heart hurts throwing them away. Therefore I discovered a couple things that help to preserve your nail polishes and believe it or not they last 3-4 years! And I do have a couple that I have been using for over 5 years and I never spent more than four bucks for a nail polish.

My tips:
  1. Store all of your nail polishes in a dark place.
  2. Preferably store your nail polishes in a dry place.
  3. If you find a can, jar/box that doesn`t let much air in, that`s ideal.
  4. Every 3 months or so, go ahead and clean the top with a nail polish remover. Nail polish dries unevenly, naturally, and so it causes the top not protect the nail polish from air, therefore it hardens and you could throw it away. Cleaning it is a pain but the result is worth it.

I personally store all of my nail polishes in 2 really big metal cans with plastic fitted tops. It`s worked wonderfully. Hope this helped! Be sure to let me know in the comments below.

Crazy with the nail polishes!!

I once read that no-one needs 30 nail polishes unless they’re a nail studio. Oh well, then I guess I’m a nail studio.

I’ve gotten a couple colors recently that I want to share with you guys. The absolute top color for this summer and my current most favorite is this light blue-ish color. It is very soft and matches this year’s trend of pastel colors, yet it’s sophisticated and looks very elegant on long or short nails.

I’ve had a chance to talk to a lady that worked as a diplomat all over the world for many years and was at my school to talk about international protocol, how to dress up properly etc. I was very happy to hear that dark nail polishes are not seen as unprofessional, on the contrary! It is viewed as unprofessional not to have your nails done! So make sure that before every interview you have that taken care of. This s my collection of dark nail polishes. Though I love them I am not a big fan of black. If you want to have a dark color on your nails I would recommend picking a dark plum or a very dark red/brown. Black nail polish often makes the wrong statement/impression and although I believe it is absolutely fine to wear it every now and then I strongly advise you not to wear it to a business meeting or to an interview.

Little tips to fresh up the look:

  • Try the cracking nail polishes! Not for all of your fingers because that looks cheap, I personally always apply it only on my ring finger nails.
  • Speaking of which – a great way to make your nails look beachy and playful is to mix colors. You can either choose to use a different nail polish for one of your finger nails or you can combine more colors. The important tip here is to make sure to choose the right colors that match each other. When you decide to pick just two colors it’s not that big of a deal but if you want each finger to be different you need to be careful since it can easily turn to silly looking (I don’t even try this anymore to be honest, I failed too many times).
  • Stickers are a great way to change up the style a little.
  • Last but not least is to mix a number of colors on all of the nails. The best way to start up is to use a white nail polish for all of your nails and then – not using the brush but a toothpick – carefully start adding more colors on, dots, splashes, whatever you prefer. The key is to know which colors you want to blend into each other and apply those shortly after one another. If you want the colors not to mix, you have to wait after applying each color until it is completely dry. When you (after about 45 mins from my experience, thinking about this, you probably want to do this while watching a movie cause you don’t want to be in a rush and destroy it right away, it’s a lot of layers) finally get to the end I would suggest you put a see through top coat nail polish on all of this otherwise pieces of your art will start falling off quickly.

Good luck and please let me know if any of this was helpful to you!
